Foreshortening literally means to show figures and object as they appear to the eye when seen from an oblique angle. Actually foreshortening is part of a large field called the law of perspective which is the diminishing of an entire object when it is seen obliquely. To be able to use foreshortening in a hentai drawing you must first know something of the rudiments of the laws of perspective.
First, almost everything that is seen by the naked human eye is foreshortened. Only if an object is seen at a direct right angle will it appear to be one dimensional all other give the appearance of distance. Read the rest of this entry »

March 3rd, 2009How to depict sexual encounters in hentai productions
February 3rd, 2009In Japanese, the word hentai literally mean ‘sexually perverted’ when applied to publications and other printed materials. Hentai are mangas (comics) and anime (cartoons) that have a sexual theme as the basis of their stories. There are several categories of type of hentai fetishes that are depicted in these materials. How an artist chooses to draw these sexual encounters depends greatly on the artists’ skill and the expectations of those who are interested in the particular type of story.
In ecchi hentai the characters are displayed in a ‘pin-up’ soft porn manner. There is little or no overt sexual contact. Read the rest of this entry »
How to Draw Emotion in Hentai Characters
January 3rd, 2009Once the artist becomes adept at the basics of drawing manga and anime characters they soon discover that bringing emotions to their characters is more difficult that it seems. Basically to make an anime or hentai character show emotion you only have their facial expressions to do this with. A change in eyebrow height and positioning combined with change in their eyes and mouths are the basic tools to creating emotions in your characters. In typical mangas there are only four basic emotional expressions for the characters: normal (neutral), disappointment, angry, and calm. But in hentai there are three additional basic expressions of emotion: apprehension, lust, and extreme sexual satisfaction. Read the rest of this entry »
How to Draw Hentai Movement
December 3rd, 2008A common mistake that most beginning hentai artists make is in thinking that sense their characters are not anime, that they will not be moving. In point of fact there are probably more complicated movements in hentai mangas than in your average general animated cartoon. This is because of the emphases on sex and sexual encounters in all hentai materials. The artists are forced to convey as sense of motion while their characters are having sex with not only each other but with an assortment of creatures both benign and demonic. When a twenty tentacle demon attempts to ravish an innocent women, the reader must be made to somehow ‘feel’ the tentacles thrust out of the demon and then proceed to hold and impale her on Read the rest of this entry »
How to Draw a Japanese Hentai Character’s Eyes
November 3rd, 2008Modern Japanese hentai has been greatly influenced by the early American comic book style and the cartoon animation of pioneers such as Walt Disney. Japanese mangas (comics) borrowed heavily from the look the characters in such early full length animations as ‘Snow White’ and ‘Sleeping Beauty’. Prior to 1945, the look of the characters in early Japanese mangas was distinctly oriental in both coloring and facial features. After the occupation of Japan by American forces (from 1945 until 1952) the Japanese populous was inundated with American style comics and cartoons this created a new style where ‘occidental’ features dominated the facial features of Japanese characters in both straight and hentai publications. Drawing a Hentai Character’s Hair
October 3rd, 2008Of all the different parts to draw, the hair takes the longest for the anime or hentai manga artist to master. For female hair the beginner must start with simple hair lines drawn across the face of your character starting about 1 ½ higher than the height of the eyes. Anime or hentai hair always consists of two parts: the front bangs that cover the face and the larger rear portion that flows down the back of the head. Starting at the hair line, the artist should draw curvy lines down the forehead which will eventually be the bangs. The back part of the hair will curve outward and down towards the shoulders. How to Draw Hentai Type Breasts
September 3rd, 2008Prior to World War II, Japanese mangas depicted women as small in stature with small to medium sized breasts. With the influx of American G.I.’s with their pin-up pictures, comics and magazines, a new body type emerged as the accepted norm for Japanese comics: big breasted women. The bra size suddenly swelled from an ‘A’ size to a double and triple ‘D’ sized bra cup.
When drawing a hentai type breasts the artist is free to use their imagination as to the size and shape of the breast. Most adult hentai females have round shaped breasts with wide areolas and rather large erect nipples. There are some breast types where the nipple is almost an organ in itself. How to Draw a Hentai Style Body
August 3rd, 2008Ever since the occupation of Japan by American forces after World War II, modern Japanese comics (called mangas) have been heavily influenced by the comics and cartoons that the G.I. carried to Japan and introduced into the culture. Until then, Japanese hentai bodies were distinctly Japanese in size, shape and coloring. After the occupation a new body style emerged and had replaced the old body type, a change that is still reflected today in the modern comics and cartoons of Japan.
When the theme of a manga revolves around sex and sexual relations it is called ‘hentai’ (a Japanese word the means ‘sexually perverted’ when applied to materials). Read the rest of this entry »
How to Draw the Hentai Face
July 3rd, 2008Prior to the late 1940’s the portrayal of Japanese faces in their comics (called mangas) was stylized as a saffron colored, small sized oval. After the influx of American styled comics and cartoons the modern Japanese comic displays a decidedly occidental cast to the characters facial features.
When drawing the hentai face the artist must begin with the shape. You start by drawing a simple cross with the horizontal line about one third of the way down the vertical stem. There are many type of hentai where the shape of the face is traditionally linked with the category of the hentai story. Read the rest of this entry »
Scenario – What is the importance of the scenario in drawing hentai?
June 3rd, 2008In the late 1940’s the Japanese culture was introduced to the American style of comic book art by the occupying G.I.’s. Both the Western artwork and the narrative style (which varies greatly from Eastern storylines) have had a great influence on Japanese mangas (comics) and anime (cartoons) which still exists today. While most western narratives are heavily steeped in Christian morals and values, the Japanese stories tended to be immersed in mysticism and fatalism. The lighter comic tone mixed with dark fantasy of the early American animated features such as Walt Disney’s ‘Snow White’ and ‘Sleeping Beauty’ had a profound effect on later Read the rest of this entry »
