Ever since the occupation of Japan by American forces after World War II, modern Japanese comics (called mangas) have been heavily influenced by the comics and cartoons that the G.I. carried to Japan and introduced into the culture. Until then, Japanese hentai bodies were distinctly Japanese in size, shape and coloring. After the occupation a new body style emerged and had replaced the old body type, a change that is still reflected today in the modern comics and cartoons of Japan.
When the theme of a manga revolves around sex and sexual relations it is called ‘hentai’ (a Japanese word the means ‘sexually perverted’ when applied to materials). The body type of characters in hentai publications strongly reflects both the occidental bias and the sexual nature of the material.
Japanese hentai male bodies are for the most part displayed as white, strong, and muscular. There are stories where thin body types prevail and there is a certain type of hentai where very young prepubescent bodies are drawn (lolicon). The males almost always have disproportionate sized penises and large testicles. In Yao (term for male homosexual material) the bodies are thin but muscular with very little body hair.
Japanese female adult hentai bodies run the gambit from extremely healthy and busty females, to thin legged ‘schoolgirl’ types. Large breasts are prevalent in the female hentai body type as well as nicely rounded buttocks. The female vagina is displayed usually as hairless since pubic hair is heavily censored (a Japanese cultural bias) and the clitoris is often overly large. In futanari (dickgirls) the females usually have large breasts and a rather large penis, as well as a large vagina. Lolicon (prepubescent girl) bodies are those of little childlike girls with either no breast at all or small underdeveloped breasts.
