Prior to the late 1940’s the portrayal of Japanese faces in their comics (called mangas) was stylized as a saffron colored, small sized oval. After the influx of American styled comics and cartoons the modern Japanese comic displays a decidedly occidental cast to the characters facial features.
When drawing the hentai face the artist must begin with the shape. You start by drawing a simple cross with the horizontal line about one third of the way down the vertical stem. There are many type of hentai where the shape of the face is traditionally linked with the category of the hentai story. Taboo hentai (sex between close family members) has two distinct styles of face. When the sex involves little prepubescent children the mother face is typically drawn as round and chubby with prominent rosy round cheeks. When it is between brother and sister both have young innocent looking faces (eyes are almost perpetually wide) with smooth skin and a minimum of distinctive facial features.
The noses of hentai female faces are almost invariably small and cute with little or no nostril size. The male noses are slightly larger usually coming to a sharp point at the end. The position of the nose can be change to show certain emotions.
Drawing the eyes and eyebrows of hentai character is extremely important since almost all emotion is displayed by shifting and changing these two basic facial parts. Depending upon the theme of the hentai story, the ears can either be almost insignificant or play a major role in the character’s appearance. In fantasy stories involving elves the ears are long and pointy triangles that stick out far from the head. In Furry stories they are animal shaped and are an integral part of the character’s makeup.
